Shameless Sunday Plugs #3 C&K Episode + Update

Oh, hello. It is Sunday again and I have designated Sundays as my time to showcase whatever I am up to in Hollyweird. It’s a light week this time around but I have a few announcements so buckle up all the same. Also there’s an affiliate link in this post, so should you click the link I may get a commission.

My latest episode of Creepy & Kooky Cali Vlog is special because I got to go to a cemetery with a funeral director! Alex (The Cemetery Seeker on Instagram) has turned his job into a passion project by visiting cemeteries and sharing people’s stories on Instagram via their graves. We got connected earlier this summer when I started posting the videos I did with Kurt Deion as they were mutuals. My Instagram is a mess because it went from regular account, to a fashion blog account (yup, I’m a former fashion blogger but got out right about the time it began being called “influencing”), to Hollywood and puppeteer life, to some comedy nonsense only in the pandemic, to being dormant while working on mental and physical health issues, to whatever it is I think I’m doing now with a combo of grave photos, Universal Studios theme park stories, my dog, a lot of absences, and occasional comedy nonsense. Like, branding…what is that? I should probably have more (active) accounts for my different passions than I do, but for now it is what it is but all of this is to say that I kind of get why I’m not as plugged into the cemetery world of Instagram, so thank you to Kurt for opening that up for me a bit! I’m in talks with another person I met through Kurt to do a video so thank him for me by buying his book, ha.

ANYWAY, Alex and I became friends on Instagram and upon learning that he was also based in Los Angeles my wheels started spinning and I asked him to be on the show to which thankfully he agreed to do. So off to Calvary Cemetery to meet a funeral director I’ve never met in real life and off to Calvary Cemetery to meet an Instagram stranger with a dog and puppets he went! (As you do.) I think all of the episodes are fun for their own unique reasons but I think this is a special episode because this is someone who is in the field, provided context for some things that I could not know otherwise, and it’s just a different energy and conversation we had despite that we cover some well worn topics. Yes, I asked him if he believes in ghosts and all of that nonsense but I found his comfort level discussing death and loss and his respect for the deceased and honoring their memories, in addition to his personal insights from working in the death industry to be the most interesting parts of this episode. This episode probably best encapsulated the entire point and aim of doing this series, and I think it’s because we have pretty identical views and values with how and why we do cemetery content. I’d call this a “can’t miss” episode of the series, so please watch if you’re into this series.

An unexpected bonus of having The Cemetery Seeker as a guest is that he had been to Calvary Cemetery before many times and knew his way around! I’m laughably bad at navigating cemeteries so it was a luxury to have a resident expert just escort me to the gravesites of several Barrymores, Irene Dunne, Peggy O’Neill, Lou Costello, Pola Negri, Ramon Novarro, Marry Philbin, and Harry Sinclair. (Sincerely, thank you!) Calvary Cemetery I would consider to be an underrated cemetery. It feels like an east coast cemetery with some old school gothic tombstones and a stunning European meets art deco mausoleum, and yet there’s also palm trees everywhere. This is one of the last cemeteries on my list (I have to go back to a few still, so there’s still several more episodes coming) and part of why I haven’t been yet is because I generally ask my guests which ones they want to go to. As I only have a few left and some more specific agendas, I’m now more or less suggesting which cemetery to go to when I’m connecting with a potential guest. On a whim I chose Calvary for Alex and was delighted that it’s actually his favorite cemetery. Kismet!

Usually on Mondays I drop a new episode of Creepy & Kooky but this week I’m taking off. It was an accident that we aren’t getting a new episode this week and I apologize. Weather, schedule conflicts, and then me being sick off and on the past two weeks really threw a wrench in the works so sadly this is what it is. However, go and subscribe to my YouTube page if you haven’t already because I may pull a fast one and release new and different content this week. Just sayin'! Also I believe this will be a more active week with me on the blog here too (again I was sick for a while) so come back soon or follow me on social media for more (tabs at the top of bottom of your screens, depending on if you’re on a phone or computer). Have a great Sunday!
